Bellevue Historical Society Annual Meeting

 

BELLEVUE HISTORICAL SOCIETY ANNUAL MEETING

 

Program:  Russell Herner, Founding Board Member, will present a program about his newest book
"Cathedrals Built by the Masons" (originally presented at ElderCollege).


FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Mary's Catering to Go, 111 N. Buckeye Street, Bellevue


Russell Herner, Founding Member of the Historical Society, will present a slide program titled, Cathedrals Built by the Masons.Color slides will show several European Cathedral interiors and exteriors. There will be a display of several primitive tools that would have been used to build the magnificent Cathedrals of Europe.
Mr. Herner's slides help tell the story of the brilliance of the Master Builders and Craftsmen who designed and built the beautiful Masterpieces of Architecture called Cathedrals, using only primitive tools.  Cathedral buildings are a fusion of man's greatest accomplishments in the arts, sciences and humanities over the centuries.   
Russell Herner began researching cathedrals on his first trip to Europe in 1969.  He has collected primitive craft tools (and antique cars) for more than fifty years,  He was plant engineer eat Dixon Ticonderoga Co. for forty-five years. Russell has been a Mason since 1962, and his Masonic interests led to the creation of his beautiful book showcasing the greg Cathedrals of Europe.  Russell and his wife, Marcia (Reitz), have three children and live in the Bellevue area.  If you missed his ElderCollege presentations, here is a chance to see and hear an exciting program in Bellevue!

Mr. Herner's book, 'Cathedrals Built by the Masons' will be available for purchase.

 

Also, an update on the Tremont House Project; a short visual presentation of Magic Lantern slides of Bellevue businesses used at Headings Family Theater

A short business meeting and election of officers will be held.

Move back in time one hundred fifty-five years, back to the early days of the American Civil War, for one great weekend, at Historic Lyme Village, just outside of Bellevue, Ohio.


Battles, living history trail, a grand ball, old time baseball, period settlers, a Civil War antiques appraisal and so much more will all be happening at Historic Lyme Village.


Something for everyone all the way back in time, back to 1861.

2016 marks our 40th Anniversay and we want you to come and help celebrate it with us.

 

On June 25th & 26th we will have extended hours from 10am till 6pm, caboose rides in the coach yard with Flag Coal #75, and an Anniversary Ceremony at 12pm on the 25th.

Donations will be accepted in lieu of regular admission.

This ceremony will take place on Saturday June 25, at 1p.m. at the intersection of N. West St.and Main St.

Rail Fest 2016

Spend a day of railfaning, train watching, and photography with the Mad River & NKP Railroad Museum, the largest rail museum in Ohio.

On August 15th, we will be featuring our Kemper Rail Park for Rail Fest 2016.
The action starts at 8AM, and we’ll host railfans for 24 hours of train watching.
The Kemper Rail Park is situated at the West end of Norfolk Southern’s Bellevue Terminal, the largest classification rail yard on NS, and the 2nd largest in the United States. You’ll see trains headed to, and coming from Chicago, Fort Wayne, St Louis, Toledo, Detroit, Columbus, and nearby Sandusky.
You’ll also see the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railroad come in and out of Bellevue. 100 train movements per day through this area 
is possible, with a variety of foreign locomotives as well.

Extended hours will be offered at the museum.

After dark, portable lighting will be in place for nighttime photography. Night photos will be available at the museum also.

All activities at the museum grounds will be available at regular admission price, $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $4 for child 3-12, 3 and under are free.
There is no admission to enjoy the Rail Park.
Additional activities may be added. Spend the day with us and enjoy Rail Fest 2016.
The Mad River & NKP Railroad Museum was opened in 1976 as a lasting bicentennial project featuring our local railroad heritage. It has since become the largest rail museum in Ohio. Operated by volunteers, and not publicly funded, the museum is a non-profit organization.

11th Annual Mad River & NKP Car Show

Join us September 3rd for our 11th Annual Car Show.
 

This show keeps growing and brings in over 200 cars on nice weather days.
 

In 2015, we were rated the 5th best car show in the State of Ohio by Cruising Times Magazine.
 

There will be raffles, 50/50 drawing, and many award categories.

Honoring our Vietnam Soldiers


Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 1:00 pm we will be honoring anyone that served during the Vietnam Era 1955-1975 at the Bellevue's Fallen Soldiers Memorial.
This ceremony will be a joint effort of the Fallen Soldiers Memorial Inc. and the Huron County Veterans Service Office.
There will be a Vietnam Era pin presented to each Veteran. If the Veteran is deceased a family member may receive the pin in their honor.
All the Gold Star Families will be presented a pin honoring
their sacrifice. This is a National Commemorative partnership Welcoming our Vietnam Era Veterans home and thanking them for their service.
We are Encouraging the public to attend this long over due ceremony and Thank these Veterans for their service.
After the Ceremony please visit the "Wall That Heals" 1/2 scale Vietnam Wall located across the street at Bellevue Ohio Central Park.
If you have already received the pin please join us and honor the other Veterans.

Shipwrecks of the Great Lakes Event with Jim Andrews

Join us when Jim Andrews, local artist and historian, will present this program on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at 2PM at the Bellevue Society for the Arts, located at 205 Maples Street in Bellevue.

 

He will illustrate his talk with his original paintings of historic but doomed ships of the Great Lakes.  Jim's exhaustive research and amazing talent bring these stories to life and vividly show the rigors of life aboard both sailing ships and steamships.

 

Join us as Jim has a surprise in store - one of the ships has a local connection.  You need to hear him tell this story!  Jim's narrative and artistic skills are well known in the area.  His paintings have been diaplayed in galleries and shows all over the world.

 

Jim is a founding member and guiding light of the local Co-Op Art Gallery, Art@106.  This is a fundraising event with $20.00 tickets available at the door.  Yummy hors d'oeuvres and beverages from the Copper Top Bake Shop will be provided.
