Committee To Grow Bellevue

The Preservation and Building of Bellevue

THE COMMITTEE TO GROW BELLEVUE
A dedicated group of Bellevue residents are making a difference in revitalizing Downtown Bellevue, through improvements aimed at making Bellevue a better place to live, work and play.   The Committee to Grow Bellevue (originally called the Downtown Committee) was formed by Mayor David Kile in 2007, as recommended in Bellevue’s Master Plan.  The City Administration provided a ‘road map’ to assist businesses and building owners to keep our city’s historic buildings a vital and vibrant part of the community for residents to use and enjoy.   Bellevue’s Historic Downtown is a treasure that is sometimes underappreciated and undervalued.

The Committee to Grow Bellevue has taken on many local projects to foster economic development by encouraging new businesses to locate in Bellevue; increasing awareness of existing businesses and promoting loyalty from residents to support these businesses, as well as promoting façade improvements, downtown cleanup efforts, and more. They sponsor Bloomin’ Bellevue, with hanging baskets and flower pots gracing Main Street, watered by a dedicated group of volunteers.  Summer Open Air Markets (started in 2008) provide fresh produce, crafts, entertainment, and a reason to come Downtown. The Beautify Bellevue Project works with the Central Park development, 2016 included purchasing picnic tables. Christmas lighting is another ongoing Beautify Bellevue Project. They created four “The City of Bellevue Welcomes You” Gateway signs at the edges of the city, and purchased new benches, trash bins and bike racks for the downtown.  The Inner gateway was designed and executed in 2015. Repairs to some of the older lightning and the stone planters were paid for by the committee. They work with city schools to spruce up and decorate empty storefront windows. They also attend the twice monthly City Council.
This dedicated group of volunteers meets on Tuesday mornings at 8:00 a.m. at the City Center.  Residents and business owners are always welcome to join us and participate in planned events.  Funds for projects come through donations and income from various fundraisers such as the ‘Power of the Purse’, a Girls’ Night Out featuring a delightful evening of fun and fellowship for a good cause.  Plans for events are ever evolving and also provide a venue for other small businesses and non-profits to expand their exposure.

Our Committee fostered a grassroots group, Shop Bellevue Ohio, formed to support and promote local businesses and encourage residents to “Shop Bellevue First”. First Thursdays were created to encourage businesses to stay open later on the first Thursday of the month, with special events are planned each month to entice people to shop locally.

MISSION STATEMENT  “Our mission is to revitalize the City of Bellevue utilizing the ‘Main Street’ approach to renovate buildings, recruit new business and people, and recreate our Downtown as a pedestrian-friendly environment.  We will renew our community’s pride in our Downtown, and work to preserve the heritage as we build our future for economic growth.”
