Bellevue Kiwanis

What a difference a century makes!

What a difference a century makes. In 1915, Kiwanis began as a single Detroit club. But over the last 100 years, it's grown into a premier international service organization. Today Kiwanis and Kiwanis-affiliated groups, such as Key Club, CKI and Aktion Club, donate more than 18 million hours of service each year and raise more than $100 million in charitable funds annually. Plus tackle projects of every size and difficulty, from building neighborhood playgrounds to eliminating maternal/neonatal tetanus worldwide by 2015―just in time for our centennial.

The Bellevue Kiwanis Club has a similar distinguished history. Bellevue Kiwanis Club was founded just 5 years later Dec. 30, 1920 and through the years has given back to the Bellevue Community in many ways. One of the oldest projects of the Bellevue Kiwanis is the Annual Christmas Party at the Flat Rock Care Center.  This dates back to 1921 and is the oldest continuous Kiwanis project both nationally and internationally.  Taking it one step further this year, the club is helping to organize an Aktion Club for the residents at Flat Rock.  The residents there will now be part of the Kiwanis Organization and can take part in their own projects for the community. Bellevue Kiwanis, also, sponsors the Key Club at the Senior High School.  These students learn leadership and organizational skills in promoting projects that help their school and the community.

Kiwanis holds fundraisers throughout the year to raise money for projects in the community. Our major fund raisers in Bellevue are :
- Annual Blood Analysis with The Bellevue Hospital (May)
- Rose Sale (Spring)
- Wreath Sale (Oct/Nov)
- Roasted Nuts Sale (Community Days, June).

LOCAL PROJECTS  The funds raised go to many projects in the community.

Kiwanis, also, offers loans for  local students who wish to extend their education.

The Bellevue Kiwanis club belongs to Division 12, Ohio District and Kiwanis International.  With Ohio  District  Kiwanis Foundation, Bellevue Kiwanis donated  funds for an emergency room at The Bellevue  Hospital,  and internationally Bellevue Kiwanis donates to the Eliminate Project– Eliminate Neonatal Tetanus in third world countries.Bellevue members, Chris Walter, Dick Dundore and Ron Smith have served as  Lt. Governor of Division 12.
